Day 3/4/5: Kyoto Adventure

Using your Japan Rail Pass, you will take your first seat on the shinkansen (bullet train). What an experience! Watch out for the cabin staff bowing to you while they enter and leave your carriage. So polite, so clean, and so comfortable!

Three nights in the ancient capital and culturally rich Kyoto.  You will join a day tour which will bring you on a journey through the delights of traditional Kyoto and visit the nearby city of Nara.  Here you can visit the First Capital and Unesco World Heritage Todaiji Temple in Nara. Nara is also home to the largest bronzed statue and biggest wooden buildings in the world. Very impressive!

Kyoto is also believed to be the first city in Japan to see the game of rugby.  Why not visit the Shimagomo Shrine where you will see a commemorative stone to rugby and birth of this sport in Japan which has come to mean so much to its people.

You also have a day to spend at your leisure and to get the full experience of Kyoto and explore the former Japan capital at your own pace.

Stay: Kyoto City Centre Hotel (3 nights)

Day 6/7: Discover Hiroshima

Using your Japan Rail Pass you will travel west on the shinkansen to Hiroshima. Visit the sole survivor of the worlds first nuclear blast at the Peace Memorial Park & Museum. Be prepared to be overwhelmed and humbled.

Miyajima Island, home to one of Japan's 17 Unesco World Heritage sites at Itsukushima Shrine, is a one hour train/ferry ride from Hiroshima station. Welcomed by the giant floating tori gate and shrine, in contrast to your Hiroshima experience, be prepared to be blown away by this quintessential symbol of Japan....not to be missed

Stay: Hiroshima City Centre Hotel (2 nights)

Day 8/9/10: Quarter Final time in Oita

It's time to head south to the Island of Kyushu which will play host to the first and third knockout rounds of the Rugby World Cup.

As well as rugby, here on Japan's third largest island you can experience many historic treasures, modern cities and natural beauty, including the famous onsen region of Beppu.  Why not immerse yourself in Japanese culture while unwinding from the tense rugby clashes in a public outdoor bath.
