RUGBY TRAIL BY RAIL (2-3) incl. Yakushima Island

Day 1: Arrive Japan

Make your own way into Japan's Kansai (KIX) Airport. Your tour starts with us in Kansai Airport. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in Kobe. If you cannot find a flight into Kansai don't worry. There are other options available so speak to us for some advice.

Our local guide will show you the sites today in Kobe before going to see Ireland play Russia in Kobe Stadium. Kick off is at 19.45 so we plan to get you to the stadium in advance for some pre-match excitement. After the game, join our Unique Japan Rugby Tours post-match party at a local izakaya (Japanese style bar).

Day 3: Ancient Capital Kyoto

After breakfast, take a quick bullet train journey to Kyoto. Our local guide will meet you after you check into your hotel. Together you will see some of Kyoto's must-see-highlights, ending your day at a local tea house in Gion for an authentic Japanese ceremony experience. Explore the picturesque night view in Kyoto's Pontouchou area.

Day 4: Free Day (Kyoto)

You have a free day today so the options are endless.

Take a train ride to Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. Visit the World Heritage Sites of Ancient Nara; Todai-ji Temple is home to the worlds largest bronze statue and largest wooden buildings from pre-modern times.

After spending the morning in Nara continue on to Osaka for an afternoon of city sightseeing. Osaka is renowned for its busy streets, modern architecture, and not forgetting Osaka Castle. For the younger generation, Universal Studios Theme Park or the national Aquarium may appeal to some.

Or, if you prefer to stay put in Kyoto, there are thousands of places to see here. Whatever you prefer, we will give you the best advice and information on how to get around on your own adventure day today.

Day 5: Speedy Shinkansen to Hiroshima

Using your Japan Rail Pass you will travel west on the high speed bullet train (aka 'shinkansen') to Hiroshima. Visit the sole survivor of the worlds first nuclear blast at the Peace Memorial Park & Museum. Be prepared to be overwhelmed and humbled.

Miyajima Island, home to one of Japan's 17 Unesco World Heritage sites at Itsukushima Shrine, is a one hour train/ferry ride from Hiroshima station. Welcomed by the giant floating tori gate and shrine, in contrast to your Hiroshima experience, be prepared to be blown away by this quintessential symbol of Japan....not to be missed.

Day 6: Kyushu's Kagoshima

By this stage you may be ready to slow the pace down a bit. Kagoshima, located in the southern tip of Kyushu Island, is best known for its beaches, sand baths, and fresh fish. It is also the port town where you catch the ferry to Yakushima Island. Whatever the weather, we recommend you sample the heated sand baths at Ibusiki. Enjoy a different atmosphere and small town feel to this sunny coastal town.

Day 7/8/9: Time to chill (or hike) on Yakushima Island

Move back up to Fukuoka to watch Ireland play its last pool game against Samoa. Fukuoka is a lively city. Very manageable and easy to get around. No doubt it will be covered in green jerseys so you won't have far to go to find the rugby excitement. This being said, you will still be met by our local staff who will show you some of Fukuoka's must see places including Daizaifu Temple.

Kickoff on October 12th is at 19.45 so you'll have plenty of time to get built up for the excitement of this game. As with all of our tours, we will transfer you to/from the stadium to the city centre and invite you to join our Unique Japan Rugby Tours post-match party in a local izakaya! So whether you're on your own, or with a gang, we will make sure your last night in Japan will be a memorable one.

Day 12: Depart Japan

Your tour ends today at Fukuoka. You will be given instructions on how to get to your next destination. If you cannot fly from Fukuoka Airport the closest international airport would be Osaka. Don't worry, if you need to extend your stay we can arrange some post-tour nights in whatever city you fly home from. Speak to us no matter what your dilemma! Always happy to help.
